Abstract

The present study aimed to estimate and compare the health biomarkers (serum enzymes, hormones and biochemical parameters) before and after cesarean section in women. Thirty female patients, (20-35 years) of age, were selected at the labor ward of District Head Quarter (DHQ) Hospital, Faisalabad. Blood samples were taken from each patient at three different time intervals (one day prior to cesarean section, immediately after cesarean section and one day after cesarean section). Serum was separated and stored at -20°C till analysis. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan multiple range test. All the serum enzymes except total oxidant status were significantly higher before and immediate after cesarean section as compared to day after cesarean section indicating a high level of antioxidant profile. Low level of total oxidant status is suggestive of oxidative stress before cesarean section. There was substantial decreased in nitric oxide activity after cesarean, hormonal profile display considerable reduction in thyroxine level after cesarean section in females. Serum oxidative stress markedly increased before cesarean and a prominent fall was observed in serum antioxidant status immediately after cesarean section.
