Abstract

Introduction: Inter Trochanteric fractures are seen in elderly patients. The choice of implant for the surgical fixation is dynamic hip screw and side plate for stable fractures and intramedullary nail for unstable fractures. But today most of the hospitals and surgeons are using intramedullary devices for the both stable and unstable fractures. Angelen et al (2008) found that dramatic increased rate of 3% in 1999 to 67% in 2006 in the use of intramedullary for intertrochantric fractures irrespective of the type. Materials and methods: Thirty stable intertrochantric fractures were operated with closed reduction and internal fixation with dynamic hip screw and side plate between May 2009 and November 2012 were studied. Post operative follow up done at intervals of 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 weeks and final results were evaluated using Kyle's criteria at 24 weeks. Results: We achieved excellent results in 80% of the cases and good in 20%.
