Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) have replaced communicable diseases as the major cause of morbidity and mortality in the recent past. This trend is alarming as it is similar across the world, irrespective of the economic status of the affected people. Obesity has been found to be a risk factor for several of these NCDs, particularly type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases. Thus better understanding of the causes and effects of obesity may help towards understanding the NCDs affected by it. The following study focuses on the identification of the relationship between genes and their effect on obesity. For this study, various websites and online resources were searched for collecting secondary data on the most important genes relevant to obesity. Subsequently, proteins encoded by these genes linked with obesity were found. This was followed by identification of gene-protein interactions in the context of a few of these genes. Finally, a map of interacting genes was generated.
